World Art Day 2026
On April 15, 2026, the ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓArt Committee is hosting a number of art event exhibitions in the in Athabasca to celebrate World Art Day.
A few exhibitions will be open for public viewing from 3 – 6:30 p.m. in the ARC. Artist Maureen Harvey will host a pencil and watercolour art demonstration at 3:30 p.m. There will also be a reception to celebrate the generous art donations from local artists Sylvain Voyer and Maureen Harvey, and announce the winners of the Ekphrastic Poetry Contest.
Exhibitions open for public viewing
From 3 – 6:30 p.m. ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓand Athabasca community members are welcome to view the following exhibitions:
- Garden of Expression, Cultivating Community Through Art: This exhibition will feature the art of local artists and celebrate creativity, growth, and the shared spaces that connect us.
- Maureen Harvey Art Exhibition: Maureen Harvey has generously donated artwork to Athabasca University. The donated collection of watercolour paintings explores shoreline ice at Jenkins Lake.
- Sylvain Voyer Art Exhibition: Sylvain Voyer has generously donated artwork to Athabasca University. The donated collection explores the Tawatinaw Valley where Voyer has had property for over 30 years.
- Ekphrastic Poetry Contest: Those connected to ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓand the Athabasca community were invited to write a poem based on one of nine selected pieces of art in AU's collection. The art will be on display and the contest winners will be announced at the evening reception.
3:30 p.m. - Public art demonstration with Maureen Harvey: ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓcommunity members are invited to take part in a pencil and watercolour art demonstration with Maureen Harvey. No previous experience is required; everyone is welcome.
Reception: This reception will celebrate the generous art donations from Maureen Harvey and Sylvain Voyer.
The winners of the Ekphrastic Poetry Contest will also be announced. Light refreshments will be served.
