The use of GenAI continues to become normalized while also remaining contentious in all walks of life. Building on the success of the recent series of multi-session workshops on the use GenAI in academic research, organized by the FGS for professors and graduate students, this year’s FGS Open Forum focuses on the issues related to research outcome assessment in the age of GenAI.

9 – 9:15 a.m. Introductory remarks

Speakers: Dr. Simon Sigué, Interim FGS Dean & Dr. Meenal Shrivastava, FGS Associate Dean

9:15 – 10:30 a.m. | How to Assess Research Outcomes in the age of GenAI?
Panelists will be asked to broadly respond to the following questions from the perspective of their portfolios and expertise.

  • In an increasingly complex social and technological scenario in which research is being designed and conducted, how do we adapt our understanding of research outcomes and what role can (or cannot) be played by GenAI in assessing research outcomes?
  • What kinds of strategic and institutional initiatives should we consider adopting in the next five years to improve research assessment practices?

10:45 – 11:45 a.m. | Supporting ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓGraduate Students in the age of GenAI

This graduate student panel will address the pressing challenges faced by graduate students, offering critical perspectives on how the institution can continue to grow and support its diverse community of emerging scholars and practitioners in the age of GenAI.

11:45 AM – 12:45 p.m. | Lunch break

12:45 – 1:55 p.m. | Innovating within Graduate Programs in the age of GenAI

This panel will discuss strategic initiatives and responses within graduate programs across faculties to account for the challenges and opportunities of designing and assessing assignments and research-based projects in the era of GenAI.

1:55 – 2 p.m. | Closing remarks
