Dr. Maria Campbell

Métis writer Maria Campbell is best known for her important memoir, Halfbreed, which initiated a rebirth of Aboriginal literature in Canada. She was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2008. Campbell was born in 1940 in northwestern Saskatchewan on a trapline and grew up in a road-allowance community.

Maria Campbell went on to write books for children, including People of the Buffalo (1975), Little Badger and the Fire Spirit (1977), and Riel’s People (1978). Her works capture aspects of Métis history, translated narratives from Cree-Mitchif, and her work has been brought to large audiences through theatre and film.

Campbell’s research includes collaborations like The Book of Jessica and works in film. She received honorary doctorates from the University of Regina (1995), York University (1992), and Athabasca University (2000).

Priscilla Campeau

Priscilla Campeau is Cree – Saulteaux, a member of Muskowekwan First Nation in Saskatchewan, and has been involved with ÐÇ¿ÕÓ°ÊÓfor 25 years. Her work spans criminal justice, governance, law, management, and Indigenous Studies, and she currently leads Nukskahtowin.

Priscilla is also the chair of Indigenous studies and teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses. Her research interests include Indigenous knowledge, intersections of Indigeneity across disciplines, and the inclusion of Elders in educational spaces.

Ivy Lalonde

Ivy is from the Driftpile Cree Nation, which is in northern Alberta. She is the Indigenous Student Success Support for Nukskahtowin.

Ivy earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Native Studies at the University of Alberta. Her experience lies within Indigenous Education. She has administered funds for 300 First Nation and Inuit students through the Indigenous and Northern Affairs Post Secondary Student Support Program.

Her focus is on supporting Indigenous students through their educational journeys at AU. She is also involved in maintaining the centre's daily functions. She represents Nukskahtowin and Athabasca University from a community-based level to a national level and thrives on reaching and maintaining relationships.
