Disabling pop-up blockers
In order to access VitalSource eTexts through your web browser using the link provided in your course, you may be required to disable the pop-up blocker first. On this page, you will find information for some popular browsers. If your browser is not listed here, an Internet search should locate information for disabling pop-up blockers for almost any browser.
Firefox
- Click the eText link in your course. You may see a page with the message, “Your activity has opened in a new window.” However, if your pop-up blocker is on, the window (or new tab) will not open. Instead, a notification bar appears above your course page with the message, “Firefox prevented this site from opening a pop-up window” and an Options button.
- Click the Options button.
- Choose Allow pop-ups for (name of site). The name of the site will depend on the course you are taking.
- In the Navigation bar, click the name of your course. You will be returned to your course home page.
- Click the eText link once again. Your book will now open in a new tab or window.

Google Chrome
- Click the eText link in your course. You may see a page with the message, “Your activity has opened in a new window.” However, if your pop-up blocker is on, the window (or new tab) will not open. Instead, a pop-up blocker icon appears in the address bar.
- Click the pop-up icon.
- Choose Always allow pop-ups for (name of site). The name of the site will depend on the course you are taking.
- Click Done.
- In the Navigation bar, click the name of your course. You will be returned to your course home page.
- Click the eText link once again. Your book will now open in a new tab or window.

Internet Explorer
- Click the eText link in your course. You may see a page with the message, “Your activity has opened in a new window.” However, if your pop-up blocker is on, the window (or new tab) will not open. Instead, a notification bar appears at the bottom of your screen with the message, “Internet Explorer blocked a pop-up from (name of site)” along with “Allow once” and “Options for this site” buttons.
- Click Options for this site.
- Choose Always allow. Your book will now open in a new tab or window.

Safari
- Click the eText link in your course. You may see a page with the message, “Your activity has opened in a new window.” However, if your pop-up blocker is on, the window (or new tab) will not open.
- On the toolbar, click Safari to open the menu.
- Choose Preferences.
- Click the Security tab.
- Uncheck Block pop-up windows
- Note: For an iPad, go to Settings >Safari > Block Pop Ups and slide to OFF.
- In the Navigation bar, click the name of your course. You will be returned to your course home page.
- Click the eText link once again. Your book will now open in a new tab or window.
