I have worked for Athabasca University as a Learning Designer since 2007. I obtained my PhD in Educational Technology specializing in digital game-based learning from the University of Calgary in 2011.
At Athabasca University I have worked on several projects intended to enhance online learning through technology use. For example, on several open educational resource projects including an accessible math course, just-in-time learning resources on precalculus topics and multimedia learning activities in the biological sciences.
I worked with others in Alberta’s postsecondary education sector to promote use of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles by course designers by collaborating on development of a set of online instructional modules. A longstanding interest in the accessibility of software, and online content led to pursuit and completion of an Inclusive Design degree from OCAD University in 2023.
Currently I am working with colleagues in FST to improve the course design process (and courses that result) by collaborating with course team members, SMEs, and other stakeholders (e.g., students). I and my colleagues are focused on increasing the quality of the online student experience and providing technology-facilitated opportunities for improved interaction between students and instructors.
In my personal time I might be reading or pursuing the visual and media arts which I have done informally and formally, through course work for many years (e.g., animation (stop motion), 3D modelling, print making, mixed-media, drawing, visual design).
